There is no legal requirement to provide disabled parking spaces in the UK, though the British Standards Institution does strongly recommend that organisations provide parking bays for disabled drivers where possible. If you don’t have convenient parking for disabled visitors and customers, you can use signage to indicate a suitable drop-off point. Clear disabled parking signs

It is important to make sure that your designated parking bays are clearly marked with disabled parking only signs. This allows drivers to see, at a glance, the intended purpose for the parking bay and whether they should park there. If you expect drivers using these bays to display a disabled or blue badge permit, you can show that this is required with our Disabled Badge Holders Only Sign, or our Disabled Parking/Permit Required Sign.

For larger car parks, it is also helpful to display directional signs to guide disabled drivers to the area where the disabled parking bays are located. For example, the Parking Left Arrow and Parking Right Arrow signs clearly show drivers where to go to find the designated parking bays.

Standard colour usage

The disabled parking symbols on our signs use the standard blue and white colourways associated with the Blue Badge parking permit scheme, and with disabled parking in general. This helps disabled drivers to find the parking bays quickly, and alerts other drivers to the fact that these parking bays are not to be used by non-disabled drivers. If your business imposes consequences for non-compliance with the driving bay permissions, it is important to alert drivers to this. Clear signage such as this means that drivers cannot claim they were not warned of the penalty for failing to comply with restrictions.
