Disabled Parking Signs Guide

Disabled parking guidelines

There is no legal requirement to provide disabled parking spaces in the UK, though the British Standards Institution does strongly recommend that organisations provide parking bays for disabled drivers where possible. If you don’t have convenient parking for disabled visitors and customers, you can use signage to indicate a suitable drop-off point. For example, display our Disabled Drop Off and Pick Up Sign for Car Parks for easy navigation for your disabled visitors. You can also indicate where there is step-free access to your buildings with our Access At Side Of Building Signs so that visitors can quickly locate a suitable entrance to your premises.

Clear disabled parking signs

It is important to make sure that your designated parking bays are clearly marked with disabled parking only signs. This allows drivers to see, at a glance, the intended purpose for the parking bay and whether they should park there. If you expect drivers using these bays to display a disabled or blue badge permit, you can show that this is required with our Disabled Badge Holders Only Sign, or our Disabled Parking/Permit Required Sign.

For larger car parks, it is also helpful to display directional signs to guide disabled drivers to the area where the disabled parking bays are located. For example, the Parking Left Arrow and Parking Right Arrow signs clearly show drivers where to go to find the designated parking bays.

You can mount disabled parking bay signs on walls or affix them to posts, to suit your location. Our accessible parking signs have a choice of fixing available with a bolted fixing or fittings for mounting on a post. Just make your selection from the drop-down menu when you place your order. We also have a range of Sign Installation Kits, which include the sign, fixings and a post on which the sign will be mounted – for example, our Disabled Parking Only Traffic Sign and Installation Kit.

Standard colour usage

The disabled parking symbols on our signs use the standard blue and white colourways associated with the Blue Badge parking permit scheme, and with disabled parking in general. This helps disabled drivers to find the parking bays quickly, and alerts other drivers to the fact that these parking bays are not to be used by non-disabled drivers. If your business imposes consequences for non-compliance with the driving bay permissions, it is important to alert drivers to this. Use the Disabled Parking/Violators Will Be Towed Sign to show that you will take action in the event of misuse of parking bays. Clear signage such as this means that drivers cannot claim they were not warned of the penalty for failing to comply with restrictions.

Many of our signs are available in different size options, such as the Blue Badge Required Sign, which comes in two sizes: 150 x 450mm and 200 x 600mm. We also offer the option to customise some of our signs – for example, our Blue Badge Holders Only Sign. Simply click on the ‘Personalise Your Product’ button and you can add your own text in the online form.

Our accessible parking sign products are made from weather-resistant materials, such as durable plastic or polycarbonate, so they are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. With our range of reflective signs, you can choose to add our UV/Anti-Graffiti Over-Laminate option to protect your disabled parking signs from vandalism as well as from the elements.

Contact the team at Seton if you have any questions about our disabled parking only signs and how to customise them for your organisation.
