Good to know

The main reason for requiring protective clothing (which includes workwear trousers and other garments) is employee safety. Specific work safety gear protects workers from different job hazards. For instance, an employee using a power tool will be exposed to splinters coming from various directions. As a result, this employee will need glasses to protect the eyes, as well as trousers and other clothing made with fabric tough enough to prevent splinters from penetrating the skin. The same goes for safety equipment in other situations.

Another benefit is that it makes it easier to identify employees and differentiate the tasks of one from the other. Workers required to wear lab coats in a chemical lab are thus easily identified as employees that utilise chemicals, while those required to wear hard hats may be identified as crewmembers in a construction site.

Furthermore, protective clothing benefits a facility’s financial resources and income. The safer workers are, the less likely injuries occur, which contributes to improving production and/or everyday work processes. This is turn stabilises the facility's overall work output for the employer, making the establishment more reliable, and less prone to sanctions and civil lawsuits.
