Good to know
Workplace hazards do exist, and they come in many forms – be it falling objects, sharp edges, chemicals, noise, and countless other potentially dangerous situations. Employers are required to provide protection to their employees from workplace hazards that can cause injury. For example, welders must wear hooded coveralls to protect their skin and clothing against flying sparks.
Controlling a hazard at its source is the best way to protect your employees. Depending on the hazard or workplace conditions, using engineering or work practice controls to manage or remove hazards to the greatest extent possible should be the first step to a safer workplace. Examples of these would be to build a barrier between the hazard and the employees or changing the way in which employees perform their work.
