Inspection Labels
Need help? Why are inspection labels important? Here at Seton we dont just offer Calibration and PAT Test labels, but also a large range of general purpose labels which can useful in all workplaces. Whether you need to convey messages to your employees that certain machinery has been accepted or rejected from recent inspections, or whether certain equipment is quarantined and therefore out of action, or much more, we have got a solution for your needs.
Expert Information
Inspection labels – what you need to know
Inspection labels help companies keep track of the status of their assets. A roll of asset servicing stickers, for instance, inform users when machinery was last serviced and should be serviced again.
The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 1998 details the conditions in which an asset or product must be checked. They are:
- New apparatus, before and after installation
- Specified intervals – for example, three-monthly servicing
- Out-of-the-ordinary modifications or damage repairs
These handy tags are central to good management practices, from day to day maintenance, to commissioning and decommissioning of apparatus. Here, you’ll find a high-quality, low-price inspection tag or sign for every labelling need.
NEW INSTALLATIONS
Where the safety of work equipment depends on the installation conditions, it should be inspected after installation and before first use, and after reassembly at any new site / location.
REGULAR INTERVALS
PUWER regulation 6 specifies that inspection is required at suitable intervals, where work equipment is exposed to conditions causing deterioration liable to result in dangerous situations.
SUBSTANTIAL CHANGES
Each time exceptional circumstances (eg major modifications, known or suspected serious damage, substantial change in the nature of use) are liable to have jeopardised the safety of the work equipment.
For example, when you install a new asset, we have an aluminium foil Date Installed label with space for the installer to add their name. This makes it easy to trace the apparatus to the manufacturer when warranties and guarantees come up.
Another handy addition to your label arsenal is the shelf-life, write-on labels. Made from nylon cloth, these durable tags come with a backing card, giving you a firm writing surface wherever you are.
What are inspection labels?
Inspection labels are tags or stickers, usually printed in colour, that contain certain notes regarding your apparatus. These include:
- When machinery was last serviced
- When the next service is due
- On which date an instrument was calibrated
- From whom guarantees or warranties are supplied and when they expire
Repair and maintenance tasks are specific to the type of apparatus and installations you’re working with. That’s why you need corresponding labels for your unique inspection needs, such as:
- Numbering machinery with functional nylon cloth, write-on tags.
- ‘Next inspection labels’ with a space where you can write the date for the next service.
Often, these inspection sticker tags are colour-coded to indicate either different phases of examinations or different groups of inventory. So, it not only helps with keeping track of service dates, but also simplifies stock management processes.
Take a look at the following table, to compare, in summary view, the different assessment and hazard warning label solutions on offer - many of which can be personalised and include write-on spaces to do so.
Why are inspection labels important?
The HSE highlights the regular inspection of equipment – from machinery and any appliance fitted with a mains power cable to a valve or set of ladders – to determine if people can safely operate applications. With a proper service schedule, you can detect problems before they cause injuries or, worse, fatalities.

Remember, not all your appliances need a formal test. Sometimes you can just do a visual check and carry on with business. However, scheduled inspections are very important for things such as electrical and mechanical instruments and machinery.
A pack of periodic testing labels, for example, tell you when machinery was inspected, maintained and calibrated. This information indirectly lets operators know how safe something is before use.
At Seton, we know how important it is to keep track of test and service records, and that’s why we stock a comprehensive range of sticker tags for machinery. With a simple click, you can find the exact product you need for your business.
Take our tamper-resistant calibration labels, which deter unauthorised removal so that you can be certain that your tests are valid. You can deploy these versatile tags for your industrial, warehouse, quality assurance and safety marking purposes. For more information regarding the materials we use, take a look at our Health & Safety Labels Material Guide.
Another bestseller for industrial setups are Seton’s repair tags pack, which are made from heavy-duty vinyl. Simply make your notes directly on the surface and attach them with the supplied lock-on tie. These are perfect for odd components such as bins or equipment with rounded contours.
If you’re looking for a more specialised solution for your electrical wiring networks and equipment, add our electrical safety labels to your order. These write-on, self-adhesive, full colour aluminium foil electrical inspection labels are smudge-free to convey clear messages and are supplied in pack sizes from 100 to 500 labels.
Who must inspect equipment or installations?
Any experienced person can perform a test on equipment or installations. Within your organisation it is your choice, who is deemed a responsible person, however in some instances, you’ll need to get a professional such as an electrical engineer for power works or a fire safety inspector for safety apparatus.
If you get an external inspector for electrical items - usually anything fitted with a cable to the mains outlet, for example, that person’s name should appear on the electrical inspection warning labels.
In a similar design, our safety check labels come in a roll of 500 tags and can be written on with a simple marker pen for custom notes.
Are quality inspection labels effective?
Your QC checked labels or QC test tags are an assurance of the quality of your products or apparatus. This exercise often includes periodic test labels or next test date tags, which record scheduled service and calibration checks.
As your inspections form a key part of your quality control procedures, you must keep custom-designed aluminium quality control approved signs on site. Manufactured from aluminium foil, Seton’s quality-checked stickers are straightforward tags that contain space for a responsible person's signature and date, and are supplied in a pack of 100 up to 500 labels.
Worried about individuals tampering with apparatus tags? Concerned they won’t stand up to the dirt and grime of a busy workplace? Take a look at our huge range of self-laminating signs. With these products you can rest easy as the UL approved, white polyester is sealed with an overlaminate ensuring your text cannot be altered.
Test label stickers are simple yet effective products to keep your business and stock up to date. We even have detailed inspection labels and inspection labels maintenance tags for detailed inspections, services and goods received.
At Seton, we offer an unbeatable choice of low price, personalised asset, product quality control and periodic machinery testing labelling solutions. Most accept a full range of media to write-on custom details, such as dates, inspector signatures and repair notes, supplied in a choice of design and pack size from 10 to 500 of the same label.
