Using Padlocks in a Lockout Tagout Program

Lockout padlocks are used in a loto program to keep lockout devices in place, thereby restricting access to hazardous energy sources and equipment. It is a good idea to use different colours as a method of identifying the teams, individuals and departments responsible.

Each padlock is supplied with 2 keys that cannot open any other padlock. This could be useful where multiple employees attach a padlock to one hasp, ensuring only they can remove the padlock they attached.

A master keyed system allows a supervisor to open padlocks in the event of an emergency. The master key should be retained in a secure location.
