Legislation EN 352

Technical Information

Good to know

The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 is the legislation that, amongst others, established the standards regarding the protection required when working in environments with different noise levels. The legislation established three noise level values to look out for namely:

80dB with a peak sound pressure level of 135 dBC - The lower exposure level. Employers are to provide hearing protection devices if their employees should seek them. Audiometric screening should also be provided to your employees to ascertain those who are at risk of noise induced hearing loss or NIHL
85bDA with a peak sound pressure level of 137 dBC - This is the upper exposure level. Hearing protection should be enforced. Employees regularly exposed to these levels should be regularly monitored for signs of NIHL. Noisy areas should also be identified through the use of signs

It should also be remembered that if noise level exposure varies from day to day, the weekly exposure level should be taken and this value is to be used.

Besides the aforementioned measures, training should also be provided on working safely under noisy conditions.
