Electrical Test Equipment: Buying Guide

In compiling our selection of test and measuring equipment, we’ve tried to make it as comprehensive as possible. Whatever it is that you need to monitor, we can provide you with the tools to do so.

We stock many different types of scales for assessing weight, some of them designed for checking heavy items and others designed to be acutely sensitive to small variations in weight. When choosing the right device for you, it’s usually best to select the most sensitive scales you can since accuracy is key. You can also choose between platform scales and hanging scales for the ability to weigh objects of an irregular shape.

Our range of thermometers is designed for use in a variety of different situations. We have cooking thermometers that are easy to keep clean, and loggers that can track environmental temperature and humidity. Some of our thermometers are designed to measure very high temperatures and are great for use in industrial settings. Some are waterproof, some have solid metal probes attached and others measure temperature using an infrared beam, so they don’t need to come into direct contact with the material being tested. Accuracy levels vary, and some thermometers are designed to be read at the time of use, while others record results and can be set to sound alarms if necessary. That gives you a lot of flexibility when making your choice.

We stock a range of meters and measures suitable for checking levels of sound, light, moisture, air pressure, voltage and more, encompassing new technologies as well as tried and tested methods used in the industrial sector for decades. The key factor to consider when shopping for equipment like this is the level of sensitivity you require. In addition to this, you can choose between meters designed to record data, and meters designed to be checked directly.

When you want to obtain visual information from somewhere too awkward to see with the naked eye, such as the inside of a piece of machinery that may or may not need to be taken apart, check out our range of borescopes and endoscopes, both capable of reaching normally inaccessible areas in need of maintenance or repair. Some come with built-in monitors, while others have USB connectors so you can plug them into a tablet or laptop, letting you get a good view of what you need to work on.

In addition to all this, we have timer and tallies that are very useful during stocktakes and similar operations, or when counting staff members in or out of secure areas. They help you keep a more accurate record than when you’re just depending on memory.

FAQs

Why are there so many different kinds of thermometer?

Our thermometers are designed for use in different conditions and industries, and across different temperature ranges. Electronic thermometers with a digital read-out offer more precise results than traditional thermometers read by eye. We do, however, have simple pen-style thermometers available, if you prefer them. Our aim is to offer something that’s useful to everybody.

Can’t I just use household scales for weighing?

You can, but if you do then you’re likely to encounter two problems. Firstly, they’re not usually as accurate as scales designed for professional use. Secondly, they’re not designed to be used every working day, and their performance may degrade rapidly when this happens. The scales we sell are designed to be more resilient and reliable.

An environmental health officer has already checked the sound levels in my workplace. Do I still need to monitor them myself?

If you think it’s likely your activities will exceed the sound level permitted for your business because the work you do generates more noise at some times than at others, it’s a good idea to monitor levels yourself on an ongoing basis. This will help ensure the safety of your workers ensuring they won’t suffer from any hearing loss or related problems.
