Speed Humps & Sleeping Policeman Buying Guide

Setting up speed bumps and parking blocks in your car park or driveway makes drivers more likely to control their speed and drive with care. It reduces the risk of vehicles bumping into each other and it increases pedestrian safety. Also, be sure to check out our wide range of Road Traffic Signs and Traffic & Car Park Signs as part of your effective traffic management strategy.

Choosing the Correct Traffic Calming Equipment

We stock many different types of speed bumps suitable for dealing with vehicles of different sizes and weights. All will affect a vehicle’s ability to drive at speed, however you should select a solution that works for your particular circumstances. If cars are the only vehicles present on-site, you will be able to use smaller speed bumps. If you are looking to slow down larger vehicles such as vans and lorries you should choose a speed control system that is scaled up appropriately.

You do not need any special skills to install the speed bumps we stock. Our Speed Bump Kits are supplied with all the fixings you need and they can be used on either concrete or tarmac surfaces. Modular speed bumps make it easy for you to extend them sideways so you can protect larger areas and guard against drivers simply going around them. Speed bumps made from recycled materials are just as durable as the standard variety, but will assist in mitigating your carbon footprint - something well worth considering when looking at parking provision and the use of cars in general.

Traffic Spikes and One Way Car Parks

If you have trouble with people ignoring directions on your premises, creating jams and the resulting safety risks; one way traffic spikes could be the answer. These are easy to drive over as long as people are going in the right direction, but deter them from going the wrong way. You can purchase replacement spikes as required, so you do not need to replace the whole unit if it is damaged accidentally.

Using Wheel Stops for Safe Vehicle Loading

Our range of wheel chocks provides you with extra security when dealing with delivery vehicles. If you are unloading items from the back of a vehicle, the last thing you need is for it to start rolling towards you. Securing the back wheels with chocks also means that if there is a miscommunication between the vehicle’s driver and the people doing the unloading, who may be invisible when they are around the back, even a deliberate attempt to reverse will fail to move the vehicle. You will, however, need to make sure the chocks you use are sufficiently heavy duty for the vehicles you are working with.

Parking Stops and Accident Prevention

Parking blocks are a deceptively simple innovation that can, however, make a significant difference to car park safety. By stopping cars from going too far as they move into spaces, they protect nearby vehicles and/or prevent collisions with walls or signposts. When you have parking blocks in place, drivers must reverse out of spaces and follow the routes provided for them, instead of leaving the space in the wrong direction and potentially creating a hazard as a result.

FAQs

Why can I not just use speed limit signs to control how people drive on my premises?

We stock speed limit signs and recommend you use them, but there are always a few drivers who will ignore the rules. Using speed bumps makes them a lot less likely to be careless.

How do I know whether I need heavy duty apparatus or whether standard equipment will do?

This depends on the weight of the vehicles accessing your premises. Standard equipment is adequate for cars and small vans. You will need heavy duty alternatives if you are dealing with heavy goods vehicles or buses.

Can speed bumps be a problem if emergency services need to access my premises in the event of a fire?

Fire engines are designed to drive straight over standard speed bumps and not even notice, so installing them in your car park will not compromise fire safety.
