The English smoking legislation has recently been confirmed and requires that: |
| |
 |
You must display specific signs at each entrance, in a prominent position visible to all |
| |
employees, customer and visitors. |
 |
 |
 |
Premises signage must contain a smoking prohibition symbol and be of A5 size or larger |
| |
containing the wording “No Smoking. It is against the law to smoke in these premises”. |
| |
Alternatives to the wording can be used when relating specifically to the premises itself |
| |
(e.g. replace “these premises” with “this hotel”). |

Secondary ‘employee only’ entrances to smoke-free buildings, where a main entrance |
| |
has at least one of the above specified signs, require a smoking prohibition symbol of |
| |
70mm (Dia.) as a minimum. |
 |
 |
 |
For entrances to smoke-free premises within another smoke-free premises (e.g. an |
| |
entrance to a shop within an indoor shopping centre) the minimum requirement is to |
| |
display a smoking prohibition symbol of at least 70mm (Dia.). |
 |
 |
 |
All public transport (including taxis, trains and buses) plus business vehicles that may |
| |
carry more than one specified employee need to display a sign containing a smoking |
| |
prohibition symbol of at least 70mm (Dia.) in each compartment that could carry |
| |
passengers (e.g. a black cab must have a sign in the front and the rear of the taxi). |

Welsh Signage Legal Obligations – Ban Now Implemented |
| |

You must display specific signs in prominent positions at every entrance to a smoke-free |
| |
building, making them visible to all employees, customers and visitors. Premises signage |
| |
must contain a smoking prohibition sign and be of a minimum size of 160 x 230mm. The |
| |
following wording must appear on the sign " Mae ysmygu yn y fangre hon yn erbyn y |
| |
gyfraith. It is against the law to smoke in these premises". |
 |

All transport for members of the public or vehicles used for work by more than one |
| |
person (even if the persons who work there do so at different times or only intermittently) |
| |
need to display a sign in a prominent position containing a smoking prohibition symbol of |
| |
at least 75mm (Dia.) in each compartment that could carry passengers. For signs applied |
| |
to glass, a clear background is required. |
