Legislation

Smoking is no longer permitted in any enclosed workplace, public building or on public transport in the UK, with severe penalties for businesses and individuals that fail to comply. Currently, the legislation does not apply to e-cigarettes, though many employers choose to prevent these from being used indoors also, our range of Electronic Cigarette Signs can help you to make your businesses position clear.

As a result, all businesses have an obligation to display No Smoking Signs in all premises and work vehicles and take measures to ensure that employees do not smoke in such places. This means that there can be no internal smoking areas under any circumstances, with smoking staff members being required to smoke outdoors.

Cigarette Disposal Options

Our Ashtrays & Cigarette Bins come in a variety of shapes and sizes, so some consideration will need to be given before choosing the right one for your workplace. Two small wall-mounted ashtrays are unlikely to be suitable if you have more than 100 employees and even a tenth of them smoke. By analysing the current use and demand in your smoking area, you can understand just how large your smokers’ ashtrays should be and will be the first step in keeping the work area neat, tidy and compliant with legislation.

For example, if you find that people spend a long time in the designated smoking area, perhaps while also using the area while they eat lunch, a Combined Ash Stand and Litter Bin could be the answer. Made from strong steel, you can place these around the area and they will withstand a great deal of wear and tear.

Floor Ashtrays are designed to be placed in areas which may not be official smoking areas but where you still want to be sure that staff will dispose of cigarette ends properly, such as entrances. The design of the ashtrays is discreet and you can place these neatly next to the wall. Emptying them is easy as the lids are hinged and you can place these around the outside of the building without making it obvious that there is a smoking area there.

Another option is to provide one or more Wall-Mounted Ashtrays. These are very small when compared to the bins so might be better suited to the smaller workplace, where there are fewer smokers. These can be fastened to the wall neatly and will not take up a lot of space. Ideal for placing just outside exits, these ashtrays are easy to empty and keep clean.
