Explosive Atmosphere Signs
(Go to Product List)Comply with the NEW Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 (DSEAR 2002), which came fully into force on 30th June 2003
- DSEAR 2002 concerns protection against risks from fire, explosion and similar events arising from dangerous substances used or present in the workplace
- Explosive substances can be found in varying quantities in most workplaces – substances such as paints, solvents, fuel, varnishes and solvents as well as the dust created from sand, grain or milling operations
- If you use, create or store any explosive substances, you must mark all hazardous and storage areas with an explosive atmosphere safety symbol at each entry point
- Workplaces already in use before July 2003 must meet requirements by July 2006, however workplaces modified before July 2006 or those coming into first time use after 30th June 2003 must comply immediately
- DSEAR 2002 applies to all employers and the self-employed
- Comply with the NEW British Standards
- There is some confusion over which symbol should be displayed in order to conform to DSEAR 2002. The symbol displayed in the DSEAR regulations is the "EX" symbol as shown below. However, this symbol does not comply with current British Standards, and there is the possibility that DSEAR will be amended to align with British Standards. In order to promote best practice, and ensure full compliance with ISO 7010 and BS5499 Part 5 2002, we advise you use the explosive symbol (shown left) which is the recognised British Standard symbol for an explosive hazard (supported by proven comprehension testing).
