Good to know

Hand protection is an important part of PPE, and mechanical hazards present a profound threat to bare-handed work. A range of legislative guidelines covers the use and selection of safety and work gloves, and European Standard EN 388 covers mechanical resistance hazards.

EN 388-compliant work gloves are rated with 4 separate numbers, each noting the gloves' resistance to different types of hazards. The higher the number, the more resistant and protective the glove is.

The first number marks the glove's resistance to abrasion, between 0 and 4.
The second number marks the glove's resistance to cuts from blades, between 0 and 5.
The third number marks the glove's resistance to tears, between 0 and 4.
The fourth number marks the glove's resistance to punctures, between 0 and 4.
