Good to know
Motorways and railways are not the only places where hi vis workwear should be used by your workers. In fact, people working in a facility that has vehicular traffic should be provided with access to hi visibility clothing. That being said, hi vis workwear is only one way to protect your workforce against traffic hazards. The Health and Safety Executive for its part suggests some tips to help keep a facility safe:
1. Make sure you have adequate lighting. Check bulbs regularly and replace burnt out ones immediately.
2. Keep pedestrian areas apart from areas for vehicles.
3. As much as possible, keep traffic within your site one-way to discourage driving in reverse.
4. Install mirrors where blind spots can occur – and keep them clean.
5. Keep delivery areas tidy and free from obstruction.
6. Provide delivery drivers with information about your facility before they arrive.
7. Instruct drivers to alight from their cabs during unloading. Have them stay in safe areas, rest rooms, or other similar areas. -
